Contraception aims to prevent pregnancy. A woman can get pregnant if a man's sperm reaches one of her eggs (ova). Contraception tries to stop this happening by keeping the egg and sperm apart, or by stopping egg production, or by stopping the combined sperm and egg (fertilised egg) attaching to the lining of the womb.

What is Contraception?

Contraceptives work by altering the body’s natural hormone balance in order to prevent pregnancy.

There are two types of oral contraceptive pills:

  • Combined oral contraceptive (COC)
  • Progesterone-only pill (more commonly known as the ‘Mini pill’)

The oral contraceptive pill has become the most common and socially acceptable form of birth control.

Through the Love Pharmacy Online Doctor service you can order from a wide range of oral contraceptives.
